EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE:

THOUSANDS OF EV CHARGING STATIONS COMING SOON
NJGCA V.P. FEATURED IN ASBURY PARK PRESS

Things are quiet at the moment in Trenton because the legislature and the governor are debating the budget which must be passed in 30 days. We are keeping things short and sweet this week:
CHARGING STATIONS
More frequently I have been sending you relevant information on what's happening in the electric car world. I continue to base my opinion that electrification, and more specifically, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at some point are going to burst with demand. The reason I feel this way is because large corporations are making big investments in this future marketplace. I will continue to keep bringing news like this to your attention.  Repair shops also need to pay attention, as customers will need service on the vehicles they drive no matter if the vehicles has an internal combustion engine, or an electrified engine.  Service opportunities will be abundant.

NJGCA V.P. IN APP
On a positive note, we are very proud of our member and current Vice President Joe Ocello, whose business was featured yesterday in the Asbury Park Press. I know many of my members have similar stories. In fact, some of you may have already received an email from Michelle asking if she can visit you and interview you about your history in this business and how NJGCA has helped you along the way so we can publish any interesting facts for all of our members. Remember, we are always looking to feature your stories in our On the Road newsletter. We have both the Horror Highlight and Member Memories sections that feature personal stories from your business. If you have any funny, interesting, informative, scary, etc. stories to share with members, be sure to send them to Michelle at michelle@njgca.org, or call the office. We always get positive feedback on these sections and are always in need of stories to share!

I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend and had the opportunity to spend time with your families.

That's all for this week -
Sal Risalvato
Executive Director

N.J. Should Keep Its Cap On Liquor Licenses To Protect Small Businesses And The Consumer, Trade Group Says
Under current state law, a corporate entity is capped at two liquor licenses. There’s been a consistent push over the last decade to expand this limit from two to 10. While proponents of this change often object that our state’s liquor laws are outdated, many other states have similar license caps in place. Why? Because reasonable liquor license caps keep the industry-led systems guided by small, local, responsible businesses rather than large, out-of-state corporations that are unresponsive to local communities.

Plans Emerge for NJ Health Insurance Marketplace, New Protections
Three months after Gov. Phil Murphy announced New Jersey would take the reins for the state’s health insurance marketplace from the federal government, the details of what this means are starting to appear. Democratic lawmakers introduced a dozen bills late last week to create the infrastructure, funding, and regulatory structure for a state-based system that would enable New Jersey officials to create, market, and sell health insurance policies to low-income individuals and small businesses with fewer than 50 employees.

First On CNN Business: GM And Bechtel Plan To Build Thousands Of Electric Car Charging Stations Across The US
General Motors, America's largest automaker, and Bechtel, the country's largest construction company, are teaming up to build thousands of electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the United States. The two companies have agreed to create a new company that will build the charger network. Adding more fast charging stations should provide a boost to sales of electric cars. One of the biggest concerns Americans have about electric cars is whether there will be enough places to charge them, according to a recent survey by AAA.

NJ Travelers Face Rest Stop Renovations, Service Closures Along Turnpike This Weekend
On this Memorial Day weekend as many are getting out of town, travelers planning on heading down the New Jersey turnpike need to take note some rest stops along the way might not be in service. . .“That is a tremendous inconvenience to people coming from northern part of state to switch over to get onto the Garden State Parkway,” said Sal Risalvato, executive director of the New Jersey Gasoline Association. He reminds drivers gas is never too far away if you are running low, just hop off one of the exits.

NJ Needs to Fix Recycling Programs – Grants Not Enough
The DEP has awarded $21.5 million in annual Clean Communities grants to help municipalities and counties with litter cleanup activities and programs. That’s a funding increase of $2.2 million over last year. Eligible municipalities will receive $19.1 million while another $2.4 million will go to the state’s 21 counties. See DEP release in article.

Wall Street's Love Affair With Tesla Is Over
Tesla was once the darling of Wall Street. Not anymore. The automaker's stock has plunged nearly 40% since the start of 2019, erasing most of the gains it made over the past several years. This week, Tesla (TSLA) shares fell below the $200 mark for the first time since 2016. The outlook isn't nearly as bright for a company that once was had faster sales growth than any other auto company in the industry's history. But Tesla recently posted its biggest drop in sales ever. It's getting squeezed by rivals in the electric car market who are all competing for customers. And the company has been forced to close stores and raise prices as it struggles to return to profitability.

TMP Energy Solutions
Another Way to Save on Your Energy Bills
We have had a number of NJGCA members successfully reduce their rate per kWh signing up through our energy saving program. We know it's difficult to collect 12 months worth of previous electric bills to get an "accurate" analysis when comparing a variable rate to a fixed rate, but we now have another option available.

This new solution is a power purchase option; the other program is still in full force and has saved members thousands of dollars. If you sign up for the power purchase option, you will be grouped with other NJGCA members until the minimum kW demand is acquired. By pooling the member's usage together, you will be able to take advantage, as large energy users do, and receive a lower kWh rate.

Each member will receive their own contract. Each member is responsible to sign and return the agreement the day it is received in order to secure the price for their group. Please do your due diligence, so when you receive the proposal and the agreement you will be able to make an intelligent decision.

If by chance, you still want us to assess you bills, to give you a price to compare, we will require 12 months of your most recent utility bills. There are no bills required, but we would still like to have one bill per meter on file to check account #'s, meter #'s  service addresses and other pertinent information incase there is a problem.

The term of the agreement is for 12 months. During this term period, you will have price protection against any energy price increases along with a low fixed kWh rate.

If you are interested in becoming part of this power purchase option, please contact Greg Cannon at the NJGCA.

Remember when you sign up your energy through the NJGCA Energy Program, TMP makes a considerable donation to the NJGCA Scholarship Fund through their proceeds. This has no affect on your rate, and costs you nothing out of pocket.

We hope to help hundreds of NJGCA members reduce their utility costs by participating in this and our other cost reduction programs. Our purpose, in the endeavor, is to help NJGCA members lower their energy costs while supporting the NJGCA Scholarship Fund.

Contact GREG CANNON at 732-256-9646 or email Greg at greg@njgca.org. Mention that you are interested in saving money on your energy bills. NJGCA & TMP Energy Solutions will handle all the rest.

POLITICAL PARTICIPATION: THE NJGCA PAC
DEFENDING OUR MEMBERS.
PROTECTING YOUR INTERESTS.
ANSWER THE CALL & CONTRIBUTE TODAY!!
Promoting our agenda in Trenton is of utmost importance to NJGCA and our members.

However, in order to truly affect the debate, we must ensure our friends in the Legislature are re-elected. It is for this reason that your Association has established the NJGCA PAC.

For too long, the weight of funding our Political Action Committee, the arm of the Association responsible for political donations, has rested upon a few. This is not only unfair to those few members who have shouldered this burden, but means we are not utilizing our full strength to affect the debate in Trenton.
To truly understand the importance of supporting our allies, consider our successes in Trenton:
We defeated BELOW COST SELLING
We made history in getting FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL signed into law!
We have built large support for RIGHT TO REPAIR and got it passed out of the Assembly
We defended your small business against the false accusations of Attorney General Anne Milgram
We gained wide support to move New Jersey to an all PIF Inspection System and close the CIF lanes
...and MUCH MORE!!
In each instance, we achieved these goals with the help of our friends in the Legislature!

If every member contributes just $100.00 we will be able to provide the help necessary to ensure victory for our allies.

PLEASE SEND YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO:
NJGCA PAC
4900 Route 33 West, Suite 100
Wall Township, NJ 07753
Please make your donation payable to NJGCA PAC

I understand that times are tough for all NJGCA members, but this is just as important as any battle we have fought in the past.

We have made great progress in Trenton. I hope that you will answer the call.

Each week, the Energy Information Administration publishes a list of average gasoline prices for the previous three weeks. NJGCA will begin including this list with the Weekly Road Warrior. Remember, these prices are reflective of self-serve everywhere except NJ.
